I was soaked to the skin, wet socks and shoes, and very cold. Once I stopped cycling to buy trash bags and 3 hot tamales I could not stop shivering. The bags worn as rain ponchos and the food warmed me &amp; got me through.<\/p>\n<p>I saw two cars fishtail and slide sideways on the road in front of me. Rain turned the agricultural field dirt on the asphalt pavement to slippery clay slicks.<\/p>\n<p>One rider took cover in Mission Soledad, stayed dry (his socks did not get wet), and went on to finish riding the entire 109 mile route!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_311\" style=\"width: 1510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomnelson.org\/alc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3618_edited_3261-x-1825.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-311\" class=\"size-full wp-image-311\" title=\"click to enlarge\" alt=\"IMG_3618_edited_3261 x 1825\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tomnelson.org\/alc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_3618_edited_3261-x-1825.jpg\" width=\"1500\" height=\"839\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-311\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Central Park, Salinas, CA&#8230;a let up in the downpours. Folks wear black plastic trash bags and &#8216;aluminium&#8217; looking mylar &#8216;blankets&#8217; to keep warm.
